In 2004 a young Swiss engineering candidate was asked to develop for his thesis a small and handy instrument which would enable visually impaired and color blind people to identify colors. All people should be empowered to select and choose products based on the colors they desire.

Within one year this brilliant engineering candidate, David Maurer, succeeded in developing a very small and lightweight(.32lbs, including 9V battery) handheld computer utilizing advanced technologies in the field of spectral analysis. Colors are identified and made audible via a small built in microphone. The visually impaired person who utilizes this instrument is now empowered to identify and choose the color of a product.

Based on incentives and support from the paint industry the second generation of color identifier has been developed and introduced into the market. The brand name is ColorCatch®. ColorCatch® quickly and accurately identifies any color and references same to color palettes or custom specific color samples and standards via a large LED display.
